Lip augmentation

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in skin and is the basic component enabling water retention in tissues. With the time passing, the quantity and quality of hyaluronic acid decreases what leads to skin flaccidity. Skin becomes dry, there appear delicate lines and later deep wrinkles.

The treatment of lip augmentation or lip shaping can be performed regardless of patient’s age. In case of some people, mainly young, the correction is connected to too little formed upper or lower lip. In case of older people the treatment is performed in order to correct lips contour and changes resulting from progressive aging process.

Indications:

  • asymmetry of lips

Contraindications:

  • pregnancy and lactation
  • active autoimmune diseases
  • active viral infections (e.g. herpes) and bacterial ones in the area subjected to treatment
  • the earlier use of permanent filler (e.g. Aquamid)

The process of treatment:

The process involves administering filler in a form of transparent gel with the use of a thin needle in the area of red zone of the lip or above it.

Post treatment indications:

  • do not massage nor compress lips without clear doctor’s indication
  • avoid excessive stretching of lips or exposing them to mechanical damages (biting, wide mouth opening at the dentist) for circa a fortnight
  • in case of patients with predisposition to herpes, a few days before and after the treatment antiviral medicaments (e.g. Zovirax, Vratizolin, Heviran) should be used locally or orally
  • avoid sauna and solarium for a fortnight
  • avoid sun exposure for a fortnight
  • use sun protection – a cream with +50 sunscreen for a fortnight

Convalescence time:

On a day of the treatment, in majority of cases, there appears oedema of lips which disappears within 2-4 days. Additionally, in case of damaging a blood vessel there may appear a bruise visible for up to 7 days.

 

The effect of the treatment:

Thanks to filling properties we achieve the effect of shape or size correction of lips. The effect of revitalization and improvement of moisturizing is gained thanks to strong stimulation of skin and the hygroscopic properties of the filler.

The persistence of the treatment effect:

6-8 months, but the time is very individual and depends on the strength of endogenous hyaluronidase (the enzyme resolving the filler) action and the type of material used during the treatment.
